Brakes

Summer’s drawing to a close, and no sooner will the tourists head home than we’ll be driving our kids back to school and gearing up for holiday traffic. That makes August a great time to schedule GMC service for Brake Safety Awareness Month. Lester Glenn Buick GMC covers the basics of this essential service.

Understand Why Your Brakes Matter
Many vehicles advertise their power, capability, or fast acceleration times. However, your 60 to 0 time is more critical to your safety than your 0 to 60. It’s also worth remembering that no matter how advanced the safety features are in new Buick and GMC models, the brakes are still your car’s most important safety feature.

Know the Signs of Brake Trouble
Your owner’s manual lists suggested brake maintenance intervals, but your driving habits may mean a sooner visit. If you notice any warning signs, schedule an inspection and brake service immediately.

• Grinding noises when braking
• Squealing brakes as the vehicle stops
• A vibrating sensation as you brake
• Brakes requiring more effort or stopping distance
• The brake pedal feels different than usual

Brake System Service
When you visit for a brake inspection and maintenance, we start by inspecting the system for worn parts, leaks, and rusted or broken valves. Next, we’ll remove corrosion, replenish brake fluid, and check that other vital components are free of defects or issues.

Schedule GM Certified Maintenance in Toms River, NJ

Pets are a part of many Toms River families, and transporting them in the car is often necessary, whether it’s taking them to the vet, bringing them along on errands, or bringing them on a road trip. Driving with pets requires extra attention to ensure their safety and everybody else’s safety in the car. Here at Lester Glenn Buick GMC, our dealers are happy to share some GMC accessories and tips to keep your pets safe.

Secure Your Pet
One of the most important aspects of driving with pets is ensuring that they are secured. GMC sells accessories like dog boxes and cat carriers that can be securely fastened in the vehicle. This prevents your pet from roaming around in the car and distracting you from the road.

Take Frequent Breaks
Long road trips can be tiring for both humans and furry companions. To keep your pets comfortable, create a space for them in the backseat with their favorite blanket or toy. GMC sells pet beds and pads specifically designed for the car.

Consider a Pet Barrier
Some pets don’t take kindly to being secured inside a carrier. If that is the case, there is still a solution: a pet barrier. GMC pet barriers prevent dogs and cats from entering the front seat and causing distractions.

Avoid Feeding Before the Trip
If you feed your pet a large meal before the trip, it can lead to motion sickness. Instead, feeding them a light meal a few hours before departing is recommended.

Prioritize Safety over Distractions
While taking photos of your pet in the car may be tempting, doing so can be unsafe, especially if you’re driving while using your phone.

OnStar

Late last year, General Motors subsidiary OnStar® announced that older GM vehicles would no longer be compatible with OnStar and Connected Services. If you’ve come to appreciate and rely on the peace of mind provided by the service, this may come as an unwelcome shock. However, Lester Glenn Buick GMC is happy to explain how you can weather the change and even keep a form of service running.

Why Has OnStar Been Phased Out?
The shutdown stems from the outdated 2G cellular network the service relies on. Verizon no longer supports 2G, and the legacy hardware isn’t compatible with the newer 4G and 5G cellular technology. While new GMC models are unaffected, those driving older models will experience an interruption in service.

Which Models Have Been Affected?
This change affects GM models built during and before the early part of the 2015 model year. These include Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac vehicles and legacy brands like Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Saab.

What Should I Do Now?
If you have an OnStar subscription, you need not lose access to its emergency services, on-the-fly directions, and other features. The change has been a long time coming, giving GM plenty of time to develop an alternative.

To begin with, members impacted by the shutdown will see a reduction in their monthly bill to offset the loss of their in-car OnStar service. You should also know that our dealership’s parts department can install a Bluetooth adapter that will give you access to the OnStar Guardian app. With it, you can still get around-the-clock support from OnStar Advisors and access to much of the same functionality that OnStar provides.

Questions? Visit Our Friendly Toms River, NJ, GMC Dealership.
If you’re having trouble dealing with the loss of OnStar in your older GMC model, our dealers and technicians are here to help. Stop by Lester Glenn Buick GMC today for information and assistance.

HUMMER EV SUV

The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV SUV is quite different from the beast you might remember from the early 2000s. It’s an innovative electric vehicle that offers plenty of incredible features. Let’s take a look at some of the features we love at Lester Glenn Buick GMC.

All-Electric Power

The GMC HUMMER EV SUV won’t require an ounce of gasoline. Instead, it’s powered by an all-electric powertrain that makes this new Hummer something never thought possible — an electrified supertruck.

It boasts a range of around 300 miles according to the brand’s estimates, and it also has a ton of power to boast about. This electric SUV can produce up to 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. So if you thought that a green vehicle had to be boring, the GMC HUMMER EV SUV and its output will change your mind.

Unique Off-Roading Features

This GMC SUV is built for off-road adventures, and it’s not just thanks to its 35-inch tires. This model has the unique CrabWalk™ feature, which allows the GMC HUMMER EV SUV to travel sideways over different types of terrain. This model also offers Extract Mode. This SUV can lift itself another six inches when you encounter deep water, rocks, or anything else that might be hard for another vehicle to navigate over.

Self-Driving Technology

This electric SUV can also be equipped with Super Cruise™, an advanced technology that allows the vehicle to take over many different driving duties for you. If you’re on a supported highway, the GMC HUMMER EV SUV can practically drive itself, but you will be encouraged to pay attention in case you need to take over.

HUMMER EV Pickup

The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup takes its name from the giant SUV that dominated roads in the early 2000s, but it has some unique features of its own to offer. Here’s what you can expect from this new truck at Lester Glenn Buick GMC.

A Potent Electrified Powertrain

The original HUMMER was not exactly known for its fuel efficiency or eco-friendly nature, so many drivers are surprised to learn that this new version is going to be powered solely by electricity. The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup is a green vehicle unlike any other you’ve seen before.

If you thought that eco-friendly vehicles couldn’t offer power on par with gasoline-powered models, you thought wrong. This GMC model has an unbelievable output of up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.

Unique All-Terrain Features

The GMC HUMMER EV Pickup is built for off-road adventuring. It offers plenty of equipment that makes it easier to take on different types of terrain, and the bottom of this vehicle is well-protected from rocks, water, and anything else you might come across.

This model even offers the innovative CrabWalk™ and Extract Mode as available features. CrabWalk allows your pickup to drive diagonally at slow speeds if that’s the best way to take on specific terrain. Extract Mode is designed to get you out of a tough spot by raising the adaptive air ride suspension up to six inches.

Advanced Features and In-Car Tech

This electric pickup also offers the features and tech you’ve come to expect from a GMC truck. One highlight is Super Cruise™, a semi-autonomous driving feature that can actually take over many aspects of highway driving for you on more than 200,000 miles of compatible roads across the country.

Proper Buick maintenance can make a big difference. Here at Lester Glenn Buick GMC, we’re ready to help you with all of your service needs, and we would be happy to tell you more about why proper car care is so important. It Keeps Your Car Operating at Peak Performance LevelsIf something is wrong with your Buick vehicle, it’s probably not going to offer the kind of performance or driving experience you’ve come to expect from it. Keeping your vehicle maintained can help ensure that your Buick continues to offer driving thrills and the premium experience you paid for. It Makes Your Car SaferA mechanical problem that affects your lights, your brakes, or other parts that help you stay safer on the road is a major potential hazard and needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. When you commit to a routine maintenance schedule and keep your Buick vehicle well cared for, you can reduce your chances of running into a safety issue. You can also make it more likely that your mechanic spots a potential safety risk and fixes it before you are put into a dangerous situation. It Saves You MoneySticking to a routine maintenance schedule can help you save money too. Delaying service can cause smaller problems to turn into larger ones, and those are more expensive to fix. Commit to a schedule and get service and new Buick parts on time, and your wallet will thank you. It Extends Your Car’s LifespanProper maintenance can also extend the life of your vehicle. If you’re the type to drive a car until the wheels are basically falling off, you’ll appreciate the extra years you get with your new Buick SUV thanks to proper maintenance. Visit Lester Glenn Buick GMC for Service and MaintenanceIf you have any questions about properly caring for your vehicle, visit our Buick service center at Lester Glenn Buick GMC in Toms River, NJ. Our factory-trained mechanics are ready to help!

You’ve recently noticed that your car isn’t acting quite like itself, but life is busy, and you don’t have time to schedule a trip to the service center. Can you put off those Buick repairs for a while? The technicians at Lester Glenn Buick GMC do not recommend it. When your car is giving you signs that you need service, it may have been experiencing mechanical problems for a while already. If you put off these repairs for even longer, you may not like the outcome. What Happens When You Put Off Repairs? If your car is acting strangely, it probably means that there is an issue with a part or even an entire system within your vehicle. These problems do not fix themselves. Instead, they could end up just getting worse over time. Engine ProblemsLet’s take the engine as one example. If your engine is making odd noises or emitting bad odors, something is clearly wrong. Not addressing this could make the problem worse, damaging your engine and shortening the life of your vehicle. Damage to Other ComponentsSometimes a problem with one part can actually cause damage to other components. A bad wheel alignment can make the ride bumpy, but it can also cause uneven wear and tear to your tires. This means that delaying repairs just results in you spending more on car care over time. Safety HazardsPutting off repairs could also create a safety issue. Ignore a problem with your brakes, your lights, or even your windshield wipers and you could end up in a situation where your vehicle is not as responsive as it should be. This can lead to an accident or another roadside emergency. Schedule Your Buick Repair TodayWhen you need service or repairs, don’t put things off. Visit our Buick service center in Toms River, NJ. Car in snow

Even if you have the toughest GMC SUV or truck, winter driving over ice and through snow can be tricky without preparation. Lester Glenn Buick GMC is ready to walk you through the top GMC service tasks to help you prepare for winter driving.

How to Winterize Your Vehicle

1. Check Tread Depth: insert a penny, head towards you, into the tread of each tire. If you can fully see the head of President Lincoln, it’s time to visit our GMC parts store for new tires, or you will struggle with snow and ice.

2. Check the Battery: cold temperatures can quickly drain a car’s battery, so make sure your battery is up to par. With either an at-home tester or visiting our dealership in Toms River, you can have peace of mind to avoid a breakdown.

3. Winter Wiper Blades: ordinary wiper blades will get packed with snow causing them to miss parts of your windshield, as well as wear out faster. Winter blades are made using a thick rubber boot without any surfaces where snow could get stuck.

4. Pack a Winter Survival Kit: a below-freezing breakout could be deadly. Ahead of time pack a kit for your trunk with items like blankets, non-perishable food, portable shove, first aid supplies, a flashlight, a cell phone charger, jumper cables, and some basic tools. Better safe than sorry!

5. Change Cabin Air Filter: a clogged air filter will not only make it harder to heat your car when you need it the most, but the extra stress could break the blower motor and cost hundreds of dollars to replace or repair.

6. Check and Change Fluids: Wiper fluid, anti-freeze, and oil should all be filled or replaced before the winter season when your GMC SUV is working harder. We can easily get you ready for winter driving at our service center if you’d like help.
