You need the right truck for the right task, and if that task involves hitting the road for an adventure, you need the 2022 GMC Canyon. Let’s check out just how capable this GMC truck really is.
Great Power
The GMC Canyon may be a smaller truck, but it still packs a punch. Its base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine generates 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. There are two other engines available:
- 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder: 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque
- 3.6-liter V6: 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque
If you opt for a four-cylinder, you will get a six-speed automatic transmission. The V6 comes with an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available.
Excellent Off-Road Ability
If your adventures will take you off the pavement, the GMC Canyon will very capable, especially if you go with the AT4 trim. In addition to four-wheel drive and 8.4 inches of ground clearance, this truck comes standard with:
- 17-inch wheels with 31-inch all-terrain tires
- An off-road-tuned suspension
- A locking rear differential
- A transfer case skid plate
And if you go with the AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition package, you will get rocker panel guards, skid plates for the engine and transmission, and a one-inch lift to the front suspension. There are also other packages that will add mud flaps and a bed-mounted roll bar with off-road lights.
Impressive Towing and Hauling Numbers
Perhaps you’ll be bringing a camper on your trip? Or maybe you will fill up the bed with cargo? You’ll like what the GMC Canyon offers. The base engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds and haul up to 1,500 pounds.
With the turbodiesel, the tow rating increases to 7,700 pounds and the maximum payload climbs to 1,580 pounds. There are also two different bed lengths to choose from: 5-foot-2-inches or 6-foot-2-inches, and a lockable tailgate comes standard with both.
